The figure shows the five EU missions and their core objectives under Horizon Europe. These are to be realised by 2030. The EU missions and their core objectives are:
Beating Cancer
- Core objective: improve the quality of life of more than 3 million people
Climate-neutral and Smart Cities
- Core objective: deliver 100 climate-neutral and smart cities
Adaptation to Climate Change
- Core objective: support at least 150 European regions and communities to become climate resilient
Restore our Oceans and Waters
- Core objective: revitalize and clean our seas and waters
A Soil Deal for Europe
- Core objective: 100 living labs and lighthouses to lead the transition towards healthy soils
It also shows what characterises the missions:
- Ambitious, realistic and measurable goals with a clear time horizon.
- Bundling of activities on specific topics of public importance.
- Close cooperation at national, regional and European level.
- Interdisciplinary cooperation that goes beyond research and innovation.
- Greater visibility for research and innovation topics and involvement of citizens.
