Three ERC grantees won the Nobel Prize in 2022. Svante Pääbo was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his “discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution”. Alain Aspect and Anton Zeilinger won the Nobel Prize in Physics. They laid the foundation for a new era of quantum technology and share the prize equally with John F. Clauser. This brings the number of ERC grantees winning a Nobel Prize up to twelve since the EU launched the ERC in 2007.
