On 22 November 2022, the ERC published the results of the Starting Grant Call 2022. With a budget of €636 million, 408 projects will be funded in this round. The success rate is 13.9 percent
A total of 81 ERC Starting Grants will go to German institutions, followed by institutions from Great Britain (70 grants), the Netherlands (40 grants) and France (39 grants).
Among the researchers from a total of 46 countries, applicants from Germany are again strongly represented (70 grants), followed by applicants from Italy (41 grants), Israel (30 grants) and the Netherlands (28 grants).
The proportion of funded female scientists (161 grants) is slightly above the previous year's level at 39.5 percent.
The target group of the Starting Grant are promising young researchers (2 - 7 years after the PhD) at the beginning of their independent career.
