Political guidelines for the next European Commission

On 18 July 2024, the European Parliament confirmed Ursula von der Leyen for a second term as President of the European Commission. The political guidelines for the next European Commission (2024 - 2029) published on the same day prioritise prosperity and competitiveness. Research and innovation are to be placed at the centre of the European economy. Research spending is to be increased and the importance of groundbreaking fundamental research and disruptive innovation as well as scientific excellence will be emphasised. To achieve this, the guidelines state that the European Research Council and the European Innovation Council should be expanded.
