A new study "ERC science and invention: Does ERC break free from the EU Paradox?" analyses patenting from ERC-funded research. With remarkable results: The analyses and comparisons with peer groups indicate, among other things, that patents based on ERC research have a greater impact on average and are of greater value. The study also compares patent applications at the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the European Patent Office. This shows that US companies and US start-ups in particular are more successful in exploiting the results of ERC-funded research than their European counterparts. The entire study can be read here.
