494 Starting Grants selected for funding

With a budget of 780 million Euro, 494 ERC Startig Grants have been selected for funding.

With a budget of 780 million Euro, 494 ERC Startig Grants have been selected for funding. The successful applicants will carry out their projects at universities and research institutions in 24 EU Member States and associated countries, including Germany (98 grants), the Netherlands (51), the United Kingdom (50) and France (49). They come from Europe and from all over the world. A total of 51 nationalities are represented, mainly German (94 researchers), Italian (61), French (44) and Spanish (36).

For this call, 3474 proposals were submitted, which were evaluated by peer review panels made up of internationally renowned researchers. A total of 14.2 percent of the proposals were selected for funding. 44 percent of these Starting Grants went to female researchers. In the 2023 call, 43 percent were women and in 2022 39 percent. Almost 62,000 Starting Grant proposals have been submitted since 2007. During this time, the number of proposals submitted by women has risen from around 30 percent to 44 percent. It is estimated that the grants in the current call will create 3,160 jobs.
